Want to know a bit more on the background of the Mt Stromlo MTB trails and where the project is up to? If so, then check out the new short film made by the Club's resident movie director Sam Davies. The file is approx 50mb in size (14min long) so ADSL or Broadband internet connections would be a big advantage.
Download it here
50MB (right click > save as). You will need Quicktime 7 to watch it.
All music is by Some one your not. www.someoneyournot.com
enjoy.

Around 225 riders returned to Toowoomba to contest the 2006 Queensland state championships yesterday under perfect sunshine. The re-run of the event proved a great success thanks to the hard work of a great number of people; Ryan Myler and Mark Farington deserve special mention for the massive number of hours they have put into a job that very few people want to do.
The day itself ran quite smoothly, the only sustained injuries I'm aware of were track marshals. Quite a number of mechanicals, the rock garden claimed many derailleurs and derailleur hangers.
Elite men results are as follows (full results shortly).
1. Jared Graves - 2:38
2. James Maltman - 2:45
3. Lindsay Klein - 2:46
Big thanks to the Toowoomba Mountain Bike Club for holding the event, and another shout out to the sponsors that put up most of the prizes.
Event sponsors: Ashgrove Cycles, Nerang Cycles, For the Riders, Bikeline, Thrifty, Best Western (AppleGum Inn 11 Margaret St Toowoomba),
Great Divide Motor Inn (Cnr Herries and Cohoe St) and the Withcott Hotel (Warrego Highway) |

With the rescheduled QLD DH Championships being held on Sunday the 24th of Septmeber there are several changes riders need to be aware of.
I strongly advise that anyone who is racing read the full details HERE.
A brief run down can be found below:
- On Saturday the 23rd the dh track is closed to official practice until commencment of the event at 8:00 AM Sunday the 24th September 2006. However you may ride the track on Saturday as a member of the general public and not as a competitor in the Championships.
- You may not do your own private shuttles on the day of the race or you will be disqualified. Reasons why this is being enforced can be found here.
- Rego is 7:30 AM on the Sunday. You will need to fill in a new registration form even if you did so at the last race and new number plates will be issued.
- The track is fully bunted from top to bottom however we are aware that people often crash through it. We will have marshalls at these points fixing any broken bunting. If you are caught taking a cheat line in the race then you will be disqualified.
Hope to see you all there! |

As many of you know, Renee Junga was seriously injured at the World Championships last month. She broke the C1 and C2 bones in her neck and suffered spinal trauma at the T6 vertebrae. She also suffered two broken ribs and a fractured sternum. Renee is due to be flown back to Australia fairly soon.
Bicycle Motocross Australia (BMXA), Cycling Australia (CA) and Mountainbike Australia (MTBA) have jointly launched an appeal for Renee.
Please show your support by donating, Renee and her family really need it right now. Details here. |

With 230 entries by Saturday afternoon things were looking good for the 2006 Qld State Championships. However the rain came in and wouldn't go away. In fact it has still been raining on and off here in Toowoomba on Monday.
The race has now been postponed until the 24th of September (2 weeks away). All riders need to turn up to rego in the morning before they do any practice runs. We need to know who is riding and who isn't. Rego and practice start at 8:00 AM on the Sunday. You may do your own practice runs on the Saturday but it will not be an official practice day.
In relation to people doing their own shuttles. Drive reponsibly. We have actually had an official complaint to the council due to the way people are driving. This is the only legal downhill track in South East Queensland that is fully supported by the local council and can be ridden at any time. We don't want to loose this track so don't drive like an idiot. |

 | Early reminder about the next Stromlo Trail Working Bee - 23 and 24 Sept (0 comments) (link) Thursday, 7-September-2006 10:47 PM - by astroboy | |

Well the juggernaught that is the Stromlo MTB Park project continues to roll on, to deliver the initial cut of the trail all around the mountain. The latest word is that the shorter trunk trail option has been put in as well as the first 'finger loop' trail (Wombat Trail) and some of the link tracks. Now it's our turn to go along and polish it to the finished gem. BUT there is also other stuff to do as well for the next couple of working bees. Glen and his boys will be starting the DH track on Monday, so if you have been holding off to help out with this part of the park then wait no longer. Grab your tools and come along from 9-3 for one or both days.
As we will be working on both the XC and the DH tracks on the same weekend we need as many people as possible to pitch in and lend a hand. So if you have been holding off for a good time to start then this is it. Feel free to send this news on, and post it to the various forums around the place.
If you are keen to come along for that weekend then please send us an RSVP to stromloNOSPAM@corc.asn.au (remove NOSPAM before sending) telling us which days you can make it so we can add you to the list (and take it into account for the catering).
Thanks.

I don't normally do this, but Techno has put so much effort into this review I have to pimp it out a bit more.
He's done an in-depth review of the Launch Helmet Cam Complete Pro Kit, complete with a nicely edited clip available in both low and high res demonstrating the camera kit's performance. Even if you're not interested in the review the video is worth the download. Check it out here. |
