For the first time since Fort William, Graves didn't get taken out in the final and went on to take the win. Graves the fastest of an entirely Aussie male podium. Young Sam Willoughby (Jared minime) got second place on his first outing on a 26 inch. The 16 year old junior BMX world champion gave us a good look at things to come.

2. WILLOUGHBY Sam - AUS
3. MADILL Luke - AUS
4. HUBERT Thomas - AUS
5. DARRELL Leigh - AUS
Canberra World Cup shaping up nicely (20 comments) (link) Tuesday, 26-August-2008 6:02 PM - by demo man
Mt. Stromlo is well and truly alive, this week there has already been an 8 hour race and today the ACT Inter-schools were run and won. Still to come are all of the public events that are part of this weekend's World Cup Round (to be held on Thursday and Friday), then Saturday and Sunday sees WC XC, DH and 4X racing, as well as a National Trials round, and then after all of that is the afterparty in one of Canberra's biggest clubs!
Saturday afternoon/evening in the main event village, starting after the WC XC and stretching into the night for the 4X, is a line-up of entertainment that'll be sure to create an amazing atmosphere. Here's a rough schedule.
16:30 17:50 Movie Premiere of T.I.A
1800 1900 Live Music (Local DJs)
1900 1945 Live Music (Resin Dogs)
1945 2100 Live Music (Local DJs)
Olympic BMX Results (6 comments) (link) Sunday, 24-August-2008 11:59 AM - by Scott
What a race! I don't think too many people can say that BMX racing at the Olympic level is boring. And if they do, they're just bitter that the softball has been axed.
Of the Australians Jared Graves made the finals for the men, and Nicole Callisto for the women. Neither placed in the medals, but both put up a flight. We're still super proud of 'em though!!
Jared put on a brilliant move on the first turn to go from mid pack to the lead. With a lack or drive off the berm he was swollowed up in a heated battle for the lead, and unfortunatley was taken out on the second corner. Check out his blog the low down.
In the end Maris Strombergs of Latvia proved too dominate for both Mike Day and Donny Robinson of the USA. Anne-Caro simply continued her winning ways eating up the women's field.
Mens Results:
1. STROMBERGS Maris - Latvia
2. DAY Mike - United States
3. ROBINSON Donny - United States
4. JIMENEZ Andres - Colombia
5. van den WILDENBERG Rob - Netherlands 6. GRAVES Jared - Australia
7. NHLAPO Sifiso - South Africa
8. GODET Damien - France
Womens Results:
1. CHAUSSON Anne-Caroline France
2. le CORGUILLE Laetitia France
3. KINTNER Jill - United States
4. WALKER Sarah - New Zealand
5. DIAZ Gabriela - Argentina 6. CALLISTO Nicole - Australia
7. COOLS Sammy - Canada
8. READE Shanaze - Great Britain
Olympic BMX Finals Day (157 comments) (link) Thursday, 21-August-2008 09:04 AM - by Scott
Update 10am Friday: No word yet on any concerns regarding the weather, so things are still good to go.
---
Today's THE day and we still have two Australian men mixing it up, Jared Graves progressed through quite easily and Kamakazi just scraped through for the final day of competition. Luke Madill didn't fair so well, falling victum to some first corner mayhem.
Following yesterdays competition, the field that started at 32 has been reduced to just 16. The women's top 16 will complete all their racing today after only having to do their seeding runs yesterday.
Todays racing:
11:00am - Women's Semifinals Run 1
11:08am - Men's Semifinals Run 1
11:30am - Women's Semifinals Run 2
11:38am - Men's Semifinals Run 2
12:00pm - Women's Semifinals Run 3
12:08pm - Men's Semifinals Run 3
12:30pm - Women's Final Run
12:40pm - Men's Final Run
Live Viewing
You can either view the race live on channel 7 (who have done a pretty good job so far), or on the yahoo7 live website (a bit temperamental) here. **Update: Apparently due to a conflict of interest between Yahoo and 7, there will be no live web stream of the event on Yahoo.

Kokanee Crankworx - VW Trick Showdown (6 comments) (link) Saturday, 16-August-2008 11:03 PM - by S.
Whistler, B.C. -
The next level of aerial insanity on mountain bikes took place on purpose built dirtjumps and the Kokanee drop during the VW Trick Showdown, part of the famous annual Kokanee Crankworx festival. The usual big guns were out and about, with some ballsy moves pulled, such as Andreu Lacondeguy's double-backflip attempts, which he succesfully pulled off on the second try.
The 2008 Mountain Bike 4X Super Series is going to be bigger and better, this time with a 3 race Series concluding with the State 4X Championships. Flash Point Promotions, in conjunction with Logan BMX Academy, Gold Coast Mountain Bike Club and Toowoomba Mountain Bike Club, have organised the series with the 1st Round taking place on the Underwood BMX track (Sunday 21st Sep) that has been converted to a 4X track. Round 2 (Sunday 12th Oct) will be held on the National Round Illinbah track, with the final round of the Series being held on the new 4X track in Toowoomba (Sunday 16th Nov).

Kokanee Crankworx - Garbanzo DH Results (20 comments) (link) Monday, 11-August-2008 10:01 PM - by S.
Whistler, B.C. -
The infamous Garbanzo DH race, a torturous endurance downhill race that only the world's top riders can finish in under 15 minutes, was run once again in wet conditions. Reigning World Champions Gee and Rachel Atherton took out their respective events by significant margins. Hill took 2nd in typical Sam style - having run off course and somehow lost a shoe in his run, he stopped to put his shoe back on and continued the race, however Atherton's 17 second margin was simply too big to catch up. Former Junior World Champ, Amiel Cavalier took 6th, with wildman Chris Kovarik in 8th.
Pro Men:
1. Gee Atherton 14:20.4
2. Sam Hill 14:37.8
3. Marc Beaumont 14:44.6
4. Dan Atherton 14:50.0
5. Curtis Keene 14:50.1
6. Amiel Cavalier 14:55.0
7. Andrew Neethling 15:01.6
8. Chris Kovarik 15:03.8
9. Paul Stevens 15:10.8
10. Matti Lehikoinen 15:10.9
Ok, so no doubt there's a few of you who are also pretty pumped about the Olympics- particularly the BMX and XC events. Here is ch7's televising schedule for the two, so make sure you pencil it in

Whistler, B.C. -
The annual Kokanee Crankworx festival is underway at Whistler, with the dual slalom taking place in inclement weather and producing some surprising results. Aussie contenders Sam Hill and Jared Rando were eliminated early, while slalom/4x specialist Brian Lopes was unusually off the podium. Young American rider JD Swanguen took out the pro men's race, whilst Anneke Beerten stuck it to the rest of the women.
Pro Men:
1. JD Swanguen
2. Nico Vink
3. Chris Herndon
4. Cody Warren
