Down Right Kenya – riding 10,000km from the UK to Kenya to raise money for Kenyan schools
Friends, Farkiners, lend me your ears for a good cause! Sarah - the sister of one of our own Farkin members - is taking part in the charity ride Down Right Kenya. DRK is a bike rally from UK to distant Kenya – 10,000+km across mountains, deserts and forests, on all kinds of roads, to raise money for Kenyan schools.
Right now she and her crew of disreputable-looking-but-with-hearts-of-gold sidekicks are starting their final few weeks riding through Sudan, having already ridden all the way across Europe and the Middle East (close enough to the conflict in Gaza to see rocket fire light up the night sky). She’s pushed on through rain, snow, sandstorms and encounters with the feared Belgian police after finding out the hard way that you’re not allowed to ride on freeways in most of Europe, and is now wending her way through the unpaved back roads of East Africa towards Kenya after a full-on police escort through Egypt. She’s been on the road constantly for 5 months now, camping along the way in some strange and remote places, and will soon be coming to the final leg of her ride through Kenya.
So far she’s raised exactly half of her target 3,000 pounds for charity, and the teams have together raised 4000 pounds of their target 6000, enough to build a primary school for 700 rural children who would otherwise have no opportunity for an education. Don’t you think that her good bike-related cause deserves to reach its target? Then you can donate via credit card here, or in cash at any St George branch (details in link). Give generously if you can, and thanks for reading!
With a new designer, and a whole new look, the Feb/Mar issue is packed to the gills. Nestled in the pages of this summertime special you’ll find all kinds of reading that will inspire you to get out and get your shred on:

R.I.P. - Ed Bonnin (5 comments) (link) Saturday, 10-January-2009 02:57 AM - by Ryan
Tragically, we've received news of the passing of Tasmanian rider Ed Bonnin. Not only a good bloke but an outstanding young talent, Ed was supported by BlkMrkt bikes. Our scene will be poorer for having lost him. Rest In Peace Ed.
Please click through to this thread if you'd like to leave a message of condolence or support for Ed's friends and family.
Dropping their biggest issue ever for summer 2009, [R]evolution 15 comes loaded to the hilt! 18 year old Adelaide local Tim Burford gets things rolling on the cover with a monster superman flip, then we've got a huge exclusive with 'Downhills Most Wanted', the Trek Session 88 and Intense M6. Pro Opinion is back and we’ve got our own little take on a traditional 'How To' story, with assistance from Kovarik, Soininen and Allan. Josh Button gets a full blown interview, as does the 'SRAM Search for a Freerider' winner, Aussie Hicks. We also have the regular diaries from Rando, Bryn, Niki and Jacobs, have a chat with Minnaar, check out round 1 of the Aussie National Series, as well as a sneak peak at a handful of the latest bikes and proddy including a nice little 'tyre' special spread. To top it all off there’s the token large bunch of free schwag up for grabs. Git Sum!
