Two weeks after Round 4 at Buller, Round 3 of the Victorian State Series made its merry way to Mt Baw Baw, home to one of the most fun tracks around, and the first DH event hosted by newborn club Gippsland MTB. In stark contrast to the fog and mud of the previous season’s round at Baw Baw, this time racers were treated to blue skies and dusty braking bumps.

Not content with just having won the 4x title, Graves has also taken the Oceanias Downhill by a commanding 5 seconds over second place. While the media likes to refer to Jared as the "BMX olympian", it's pretty clear he'd like to remind us that he's been racing mountain bikes professionally since 2001.
Claire Whiteman took out the women's DH ahead of Caroline Buchanan and Amy Laird.

Unfortunately due to a lack of entries and some personal issues in the Castech team, the 2009 Shimano Australian Interschool Championships have been canceled.
Matt Bazanno from Shimano has voiced his disappointment in the cancellation but has followed with his enthusiastic support of the concept and looks forward to backing future interschool events.
Given the cancellation of the Shimano 2009 Australian Mountainbike Championships, your advice is needed as to if it is worth rescheduling the championships to later in the year or when in the new year we should hold the event. Please contact bob at castech.com.au with your advice. |

 | Mountain bike use of illegal tracks & closed trails (123 comments) (link) Wednesday, 11-March-2009 9:37 PM - by Scott | |

I know that most of us have from time to time ridden tracks that we perhaps shouldn't be, but here's a warning for those that blatantly ignore signs and laws.
On Saturday 8th March 4 mountain bike riders were apprehended riding the illegally constructed downhill track off Smiths Creek Track (that runs of the Perimeter trail in Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park). Smiths Creek Track is clearly signposted at the locked entrance gate as a “WALKERS ONLY” track (see photo attached).
Two other riders were very lucky not to be fined as well, after they turned around at the gate to Smiths Creek Track after getting a warning phone call from one of the other riders caught.
The riders were fined $300 each for the offence of ‘Unauthorised entry into/use of park/road traversing park’. The story continues here. |
