Sea Otter Results - Aussie Domination! (21 comments) (link) Monday, 20-April-2009 08:25 AM - by Scott
A little different this year, the Otter is usually the first international race on the calendar for the downhill and 4x guys, instead we had the South African World Cup. The one off annual race doesn't contribute any points to any series but does have its bragging rights. Since its the first big race in America of the year all the big wigs of the industry come out to show off their new stuff.
Well done to Mick and Sam for reminding everyone who's boss. Props also to Rando for having a great showing beating Gee in the DS and a
top 10 in the DH.

Brisbane City Council Trail Access Survey (3 comments) (link) Thursday, 16-April-2009 2:35 PM - by Scott
Brisbane City Council is investigating the best ways to manage outdoor recreation in our city's natural bushland areas.
As a part of this review, Council would like to explore the possibility of opening up trails in some Council managed bushland areas for mountain bike access. At present, mountain bike riding in Council managed bushland is only permitted on designated trails within Mt Coot-tha Forest.
Environment Parks and Sustainability Committee Chair Peter Matic said
"Community feedback will play a vital role in developing a balanced approach to the management of recreational activities in select bushland areas.
This community consultation reaffirms that Council is committed to protecting the city's bushland for the people of Brisbane.
The key is to ensure we are able to provide adequate facilities safely and sustainably in order to protect and conserve our natural bushland."
This half-sized Enduro 11.5mini is all about offering readers something entertaining to read during the downtime of an endurance race – in between laps at a 24hr, or sitting in the grass after a tough 100ker.
The smaller magazine has a selection of articles previously featured in its bigger brother; from event coverage, to interviews, to gear reviews and will be distributed to events all over Australia. Enduro 11.5mini gives a snapshot of what Enduro magazine is all about and comes in a handy, jersey pocket friendly size.
April Fools Clarification (3 comments) (link) Friday, 3-April-2009 11:35 AM - by Scott
April fools went off all guns blazing this year, so much so people all over the place were confused. So here's some clarification:
Prank 1) We changed the name of the site, which turned out to be a real change. Yes rotorburn is here to stay.
Prank 2) We blamed the name changed on the governments new hard line Internet filtering policy.
Prank 3) Steve masterfully crafted the Santa Cruz Crime Syndicate press release on the front page (it was packed full of clues).
Prank 4) 2010 Boxxer recall, this actually originated from another website and was crossed posted in a sub forum here. It too had some clues but apparently weren't obvious enough.
Rotorburn, The New Farkin (0 comments) (link) Thursday, 2-April-2009 11:16 AM - by Scott
Yes, by now most of you have worked out that we have changed the name of Farkin.net. No, its not a long strung out joke. This has been in the works for a long time and implementing the change on April 1st was just too good an opportunity to pass. Don't think we did this because we were bored, it's all in the name of moving forward and bettering mountain biking in Australia. I've written up a thread to better explain the reasoning behind the change here.
Illinbah State DH #2 Cancelled (9 comments) (link) Thursday, 2-April-2009 10:54 AM - by toodles
After the rain we received lastnight/today and the weather predictions for the weekend aren't good, gold coast mtb club and mtba inspected the track this morning and have decided to cancel the race this weekend. Even if it stopped raining right now, the track would still be to dangerous to race on sunday and we have a duty of care to all riders.
The race will be rescheduled at a later date and we will keep you updated on a new date.
The call to cancell the race had to be made today as there were a few people coming from north qld and interstate for this race.
We apologize for any inconvenience.
April Fools: Santa Cruz Crime Syndicate Subject of Federal Investigation (31 comments) (link) Wednesday, 1-April-2009 06:34 AM - by S.
Santa Cruz, CA - 03/32/09
Elite mountain bike squad, the “Santa Cruz Syndicate” has been shut down by Californian authorities acting with the FBI, after allegations against senior Syndicate members were publicised. Owner Rob Roskopp, whose real name is Roberto Roskoprano, has been charged with laundering “dirty apparel”, and other charges are expected to be raised by the weekend.
The Syndicate, notorious for hiring large, muscular men to do its dirty work in public, is also accused of smuggling publicly unavailable goods across US borders, as well as smuggling the same goods back in. FBI spokesman Rex Banner said that most of the goods were race-related and included a considerable volume of speed, and that there was a reason they were not permitted to be sold to the public. Banner alleges that on no less than sixteen occasions, the Syndicate made return trips outside the US, not only travelling internationally but returning to where they started, stating:
“This evidence shows solid proof that they are evidently proven to be repeatedly travelling back to the same place by means of return tickets. At no stage did they declare the goods they were travelling with.”
Syndicate collaborators Royal Racing, SixSixOne and Troy Lee Designs are also under investigation, which information leaked to the media revealed was due to allegations that said companies were providing colourful disguises to the Syndicate’s thugs. The disguises were said to be varied and came only in size XL, with insiders saying some costumes were “...intended to fit in at motocross events, whilst others were definitely meant to fit in with Mardi Gras troupes.” The investigation continues.
