The guys maintaining his site have got a little comp going to win a couple stubby coolers. First 3 people to answer this question gets one!
How many exact seconds was the longest Downhill World Cup winning margin from first to second, still held by Chris Kovarik? Submit answers on the contact page of Chris' site (make sure you give enough info to receive prize). |

| I've got word that One HD will be doing a small feature on the winners of Mt Ste Anne (Sam Hill and Jared Graves) at 9:30pm Sydney time which is presumably on the Sports Tonight program. Check the guide to work out what time it'll be on in your state. |

I'd like to be the first to introduce (and congratulate) your 2009 4X World Cup Champion...Jared Graves! YYYYYEEEEEEEUUUUUWWWWW!
Ahem. Yes. So. 4X this afternoon in Mt Ste Anne and Toowoomba's favourite son Jared Graves took the win and (by my calculations at least) sewed up the Elite Mens 4X title with 2 rounds to go by giving himself a 305 point lead in the overall standings.

Big news for Aussie racing fans, as Sam Hill put together the perfect weekend with wins in both qualifying and the finals and jumped straight into the lead in the World Cup overall standing. Steve Peat took 2nd and his 50th ever World Cup podium appearance while perhaps the biggest breakout ride of the season so far came from Aaron Gwin who grabbed third in only his second World Cup season.
Chris Kovarik produced his best result of the season on a track that's traditionally suited him with a solid 6th while Mick Hannah came in 9th to keep himself right at the pointy end of the title race.
In the Women's race Sabrina Jonnier continued her dominance of the 2009 season with a 3.79 second win over Emmeline Ragot with Tracy Moseley in third. French women took 4 of the top 5 spots which is, frankly, ludicrous.

To support the Belair Master Trail Plan
Stand up and be counted – or lose trail access forever.
If you do one thing for trail advocacy this year make it this.
Aim: To assemble 200 cyclists to show support for the Belair Master Trail Plan (roadies welcome)
When: Sunday 2nd of August 2009
Where:
Start 1 @ The Edinburgh Hotel car park @ 11am
Start 2 @ Belair Train Station Park Entrance on Sheoak Rd (the bridge) @ 12pm (refer map on pdf).
Why is it important?
There is between 7,000 and 9,000 kms of walking trails on DEH land in SA. About 50kms of shared use
trails (arguably of which little provides a genuine MTB experience), 0 kms of cycling only trails.
DEH has a policy to provide cycling trails within its reserves, and that is what they are trying to achieve
in a small first step with the Belair Master Trail Plan allowing bike access to a few previously “walking
only” trails in the park. This is a new and excellent initiative.
Yet there is still great resistance from some of the non MTB community to allow this to proceed.
It’s time to Stand up and be counted…..
Oh and don't forget to support the Trail plan (closes 14th of August) by emailing gardner.kain@saugov.sa.gov.au |

Aaron Gwin has taken out the men's downhill ahead of Duncan Riffle. Gwin's current form has shown him to be the United States' best chance of a World Cup win and potentially the Worlds crown in Canberra this September. Also notable is ex downhill god (more for his radness than results) Shaun Palmer in 12th just 8 seconds off the pace.
Men:
1. Aaron Gwin - Yeti Cycles 2:11.72
2. Duncan Riffle +2.15
3. John Swanguen +3.97
4. Cody Warren +5.20
5. Geritt Beytagh +5.22
..
12. Shaun Palmer +8.18
Women:
1. Melissa Buhl

2009 saw the Rockhampton Dirtclowns take up the challenge of hosting the Queensland Mountain Bike State DH and XC Championships. It was indeed a big ask for a small club, but from all reports the Dirtclowns put together an awesome event.
The cross country course proved very popular with riders battling it out for podium places. Aiden Leffman made a complete sweep winning not only the Sunshine Series but can also add the QLD Champion to his stable of wins this year. It was worth the long drive to come & compete for Erin Stoklasa who took the win in the Elite Womens category.
There were no shortage of runs in the DH, with a 10min shuttle turn around, and some riders were clocking up to 13 runs on Sunday morning. But unfortunately racing got canceled just before the u19 and Elite finals due to a couple of very major crashes lead to a lack of sunlight. Results for the Juniors and Elites were then decided on qualifying times. Jolene Knight took out the Elite Womens class in 3:14.355 and Brandon Yrttiaho took out the U19 class with a time of 2:21.791, with Clint Merrin (2:21.945) in 2nd and Ben Power (2:23.842) in 3rd. Adrian Dawson (2:15.064) was crowned Elite Men State DH Champion for 2009, with Rhys Jones (2:17.467) not too far behind in 2nd and Jeremy Peterson (2:20.384) in 3rd.
ELITE MEN
1 Dawson Adrain 2:15.064
2 Jones Rhys 2:17.467
3 Peterson Jeremy 2:20.384
4 Bogatek Damien 2:21.173
5 Knight Ashley 2:21.491
6 Grennan Geoff 2:21.683
7 Sturgess Brodie 2:21.794
8 Chalmers Levi 2:22.512
9 Davies Jarrah 2:23.613
10 Payn Jordan 2:24.831
ELITE WOMEN
1 Knight Jolene 3:14.355
U19
1 Yrttiaho Brandon 2:21.791
2 Merrin Clint 2:21.945
3 Power Ben 2:23.842 |

The track builders in Canberra have been quite busy dialling in the downhill and 4x tracks. Significant changes include moguls on the 4x track, and the improvement of the bottom section of the downhill (less pedally).
Damian Breach has these photos of the downhill for us.
Laurance Buchanan supplied this photo of the moguls.
Check out the Canberra Worlds site for more info. |

Every five to ten years there is a moment when you can make a real difference.
Between now and 14th of August we have a slim chance to get legal MTB trail in Belair National Park.
So you’re a crow eater the bottom line is this is the tipping point.
DEH land includes many area (Sheps, Sturt Gorge, Ansteys) to name a few.
If we can’t get a trail access in Belair with its long history of being a recreation park with Tennis courts, Ovals, BBQs, Playgrounds, Hiking and Horse trails where could we?
Email gardner.kain@saugov.sa.gov.au supporting the establishment of legal MTB trails that riders want to ride.
The plan is out and can be viewed here: http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/par...or/latest.html
It’s 72 odd pages but here are the key points:
• Consolidate trail network no new trails
• Cycle opportunities to be identified
• Trial an assessment process on ‘single track’ shared use sections (Section 4.2 3.a Action 3.2)
• Development of shared use trails... with linkages beyond park boundaries (Section 4.4 4.a Action 4.2)
• Green and blue mountain biking trails classification according to IMBA guidelines and principles
What do you need to do?
If you are a South Australian, Email gardner.kain@saugov.sa.gov.au and in your own words convey the message that your “Support the establishment of MTB specific trails on DEH land”. Email family and friends and ask them to as well, just make sure it is in by the 14th of August.
