Well a bit of moisture softens the soil and makes it the best to work with. Across Australia riders are pulling out their shovels and doing maintenance on existing tracks (improving drainage) or constructing new jumps. The question is are you lending a hand?
This weekend the following is going down
WA Kalamunda Circuit:
Sunday the 4th of July at 8am.

Time is running out!!!!!! Spread the word!
Please show your support for the draft DEH trails strategy:
“LINKING ADELAIDE WITH NATURE”
Submission Closing date 25th June.
What you need to do to support this strategy: Email Kain Gardner at kain.gardner@sa.gov.au State your interest in cycling and support for the draft trails strategy “Linking Adelaide with Nature”.
More info can be found here: http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/par...or/latest.html
Key points of the strategy:
* It’s a strategy to guide trail management of 24 DEH parks across the Adelaide hills. Anstey Hill, Black Hill, Morialta, Cleland, Belair, Sturt Gorge, Sheppard’s Hill, O’halloran Hill to name a few.
* It aligns DEH’s guiding principles and objectives with improved mountain bike access in DEH parks.
* It identifies the current inequity in trails in DEH parks, ie 500 km of trails for walkers and only 4 km of those trails allowing shared use with bikes.
* It displays an understanding of mountain bike riders desire for singletrack and vehicle tracks as opposed to only vehicle tracks, and acknowledges the diverse nature of the mountain bike community.
* It proposes a long distance off road cycle route from Gorge Rd to Sturt Gorge. This would be in the order of 60 km long.
* It recommends trail plans be prepared and finalised as follows:
2009~2010: Anstey Hill, Belair, Black Hill, Morialta, Cleland, Sturt Gorge.
2010~2013: Hallet Cove, Onkaparinga, Shepards Hill, O’halloran Hill.
* It recommends implementation of trail plans as follows:
2010~2013, Anstey Hill, Belair, Black Hill, Cleland, Morialta, Sturt Gorge.
It recommends investigation of the southern extension of the Mawson trail.
What you need to do to support this strategy: It’s simple -
Email Kain Gardner at kain.gardner@sa.gov.au State your interest in cycling and support for the draft trails strategy “Linking Adelaide with Nature”. You can say more if you want, or keep the emails short and simple – but make sure you say you support the strategy!!!

Steve Peat game out on iPhone (19 comments) (link) Monday, 21-June-2010 6:29 PM - by scratchy
So Saturday night was the big showdown between the Aussie and Ghana in the soccer. I was at the pub, not really that pissed and Gus thrust the Steve Peat game that was released that day.
Played it for five minutes and all I can say, if that is what he finds riding a bike like no wonder it took him so bloody long to win the worlds! Bloody hard and only for the die hard fans.
Let me know if you ever make it to the bottom of the track!
"This game has been played by all the top names in the sport to critical acclaim including Steve Peat, Greg Minnaar, Josh Brycleand, Rob Warner and Hans Ray!" (press release).

Guys- not JUST an SA topic! (1 comments) (link) Tuesday, 1-June-2010 11:26 AM - by scratchy
(poached from the Trails forum)
The Department of Environment and Heritage currently have a draft trail strategy document for public consultation (until June 25 2010) called "linking Adelaide with Nature". For those of you not familar with Adelaide, the Adelaide hills are an amazing area of riding close to the city, but currently so much of it is DEH land which is not legally open to riders.
The idea of this document is to consider general approaches to manage and move forward with the running of the Adelaide Hills DEH parks, including Cleland, Morialta, Shepherds Hill, Blackhill and more. Whilst previously these areas were considered individually, this document sets an overall direction for improving these parks and allowing cyclists in.
A big part of it is that the DEH are now keen to consider allowing mountain biking to occur in parks- if correctly managed and with trails designed with safety and the environment in mind. Currently riding is not allowed in most parks in SA except on some bitumen roads. This is a huge step forward and will hopefully open up parks to riders, whilst reducing the illegal riding in other environmentally sensitive areas.
Also, one of the biggest plans is to look into developing a North-South long-distance cycling trail through the hills from Gorge Road to Sturt Gorge- we are talking roughly a 60km trail across the Adelaide hillsface incorporating many areas of native bush, conservation and national parks which would be an amazing ride, and potentially an awesome tourist attraction too.
It is really important that cyclists get behind this- it is a good plan- there is nothing in the plan that is negative as far as we can see.
But the most important thing you can do (and the simplest) is to send an email to kain.gardner@sa.gov.au saying you support the plan- and maybe if you are from interstate say how cool it would be to have a long distance track in the Adelaide hills, and that you'd love to come visit Adelaide if it happened ;-)
